Description

This hand turned nut bowl was made from red oak that fell on my friend Rodger’s property. He’s the artist/maker on this item and a good friend of mine. The bowl is about 9″ in diameter and 2″ tall (outer dimensions). It shows the really nice red oak grain patterns , note the distinct grain patterns. A small raised area in the middle is drilled to store a nut cracker and two small nut picks (included in sale). It holds about a pound of English walnuts or a varying amount of any other nut depending on the size. These sorts of nut bowls are a holiday tradition for many families. This hand turned nut bowl is a contemporary example of the classic design. It has smooth lines and is a bit more compact than the vintage versions giving it a contemporary look but retaining a vintage feel due to its beautiful natural wood. It will be right at home in almost any home!

All of Rodger’s hand turned items are treated with food safe pure linseed oil.

Each of the hand-made wood items are distinct. While there may be two bowls or plates of similar size and design, they are all unique. The pictures on this listing are the exact item you will receive.

In the Summer of 2020, an eighty foot red oak tree was uprooted in a storm and fell into Rodger’s field. We cut the tree into logs and had them made into boards at a local saw mill. After stacking the lumber in his barn, Rodger began making plates, bowls, whiskey barrel shot glasses, coffee scoops, chalices and other assorted items, which have brought joy to many people through the following years. Since this new hobby produced a lot of sawdust, his shop became “Rodger’s Sawdust Mill,” established in the year 2020.
