Description

Painted July 2023, this piece was inspired from my time in Alaska. Living on Prince of Wales Island, and close to the inside waters, I was able to watch eagles flying, fishing and mating, every year. “Lunch on the Fly” depicts the hunting skill of American Bald Eagles, their freedom, power and majesty.

Painted with acrylic paints on a 12×16 inch canvas, this original piece of art uses bold colors and is sold without a frame. Price includes shipping

About Ranchland Reflections Art by Lisena Elixavide

I started drawing, as most people do, in Kindergarten. Both my parents where artists, as well. Dad spent a great deal of time doing custom paintings on motorcycle fuel tanks, but he was also an amazing iron and wood worker. Mom was asked, at the tender age of 13, to go to an art school in Boston. She often worked in pencil and did a her fair share of writing.
My father was a fireman so we had to live in town, which meant I couldn’t have horses, so I drew them and worked hard to make them as well as I could. As I child I used to wish my horses could come to life, and I didn’t want them being deformed!
While I now know my paintings won’t come to life, I still love to paint things that move me. I love to feel the paint and there are some colors that I can almost taste, I feel all of them. I love to have the canvas talk to me and follow what the paint wants and feel my subject “come to life” on the canvas. I love the mountains, rivers and forest. I love ranch life, cowboys, cattle and working horses that are bonded with their people and I love the freedom and tenacity of wildlife…so these are all the things I’m moved to paint.
I have had a very adventurous life, having lived in Alaska and worked in the airplane industry as a mechanic, the fishing industry as a commercial cucumber harvest diver and now am a water tender on wild fires. I have also been a legal secretary, a deputy assessor, a bank teller and customer service rep.
Through it all I created, either painting on wood conks, carving stone, antler, or wood, working pyrography, playing with clay, or writing poems and short stories; creating has always been in my blood and the need to express that has always been paramount, in my life.
I now live in Washington state and am creating daily, putting a small piece of myself into everything I create.
I’m truly grateful, and truly blessed, to be able to live amongst trees, mountains, rivers and lakes, as well as around people who are resourceful, hardworking and love nature as much as I do.
