Starry Night:
This is a laser-engraving of Vincent van Gogh’s oil painting “The Starry Night” ; I adapted the art from Wikimedia Commons’ online gallery of public domain artwork to engrave on my Glowforge laser cutter. I then designed a vector in Inkscape to cut out and fill with epoxy resin. The lasercut itself measures 10″ tall by 14″ wide, comes set in a 1.25 inch frame, and has picture hangers attached to the back, and includes the option to add a simple stand.
It is made from two sheets of 1/4″ maple plywood (Forest Stewardship Council certified 100% natural wood bonded with a food-grade soy-based adhesive that does not emit toxic air contaminants), which I sanded after laser-engraving, poured epoxy resin into, and applied two coats of polyurethane, to ensure that it’ll last and have a nice sheen. Framed lasercuts are shipped in EcoEnclose 100% Recycled Padded Mailers which are lightweight, affordable, and easily recyclable. The upcycled newspaper that is matted and sandwiched between two layers of recycled Kraft paper is made of 25% post-consumer content.
