Description

A perfect gift for babies, these cuddly toys have been used as a form of therapy to help comfort and calm babies, and some hospital staff say the tentacles remind babies of the umbilical cord and their mother’s womb.

I designed this octopus to be a little more realistic looking than the more cartoonish types of octopus patterns that are out there, and not as scary as some of the more realistic ones. This guy falls somewhere between the two … cute, yet realistic. Enjoy!

——————————

This is a listing for instructions on how to crochet your own octopus – this is NOT the finished product. This is the crochet PATTERN only.

This pattern is written in English and uses American crochet terminology. It includes lots of photos along with step-by-step instructions.

——————————

Materials Needed: Worsted weight yarn of choice:  solid for main body, variegated for trim, black sport weight yarn, white embroidery floss or yarn, 3.25mm and 2.75mm hooks, fiber or poly fill.

Size: Using the materials listed, the octopus measures about 12” from the top of the head to the tip of the tentacles. When sitting up, it is about 5” tall.

Skill Level: This pattern is written for advanced beginner crocheters and beyond. The advanced beginner is familiar with making amigurumi and understands basic amigurumi crochet terminology and stitches such as the single crochet, invisible decrease, increase, magic circle, continuous round, etc.; as well as how to sew pieces together, finish off, hide ends, etc.

If you are not familiar with all the terms used in this pattern, there are a multitude of tutorials on You Tube that can help. Also feel free to contact me with any questions. I’ll be glad to help in any way I can.
