Summer 2022 Harvest of Nectar collected from flowers in Morris and Essex counties. New Jersey Raw Local Honey, unfiltered, and unheated. This honey contains local pollen. Offered in a 12 ounce PET plastic jar.
Made by my honeybees located in the Troy Meadows nature preserve, NJ.
The foraging radius for these honeybees include these towns and parks in Morris and Essex counties: Troy Hills, Parsippany, Lake Hiawatha, Pinebrook, West Essex Park, Fairfield, the western edge of Livingston, Hanover, and East Hanover, Cedar Knolls, Whippany
Red-orange in color, this honey is simply delicious. Extracted by me. Just pure local honey.
All colonies at this location survived the Winter. This Spring it was a weekly effort to head off swarming, with mixed success. The bees capitalized on the just-right temperatures and moisture. Colonies that yielded honey made up for the ones that swarmed. The Troy location was the largest producer this year by a factor of three.
The Troy bees continue to collect excess honey even in the height of the Summer Dearth. They have access to lots of Purple Loosestrife and other marsh wildflowers growing in the late Summer.
I am trying a new “3 deep” management style that leaves more honey to the bees to consume over the Winter months. It should be clear next Spring whether this new style is good for the bees and for the business.
Please bear in mind that real honey granulates.
