Halloween Jewelry – Bat Necklace
This pendant has been handmade by me using a number of different metalsmithing techniques. Both the bat and the beautifully ornate bail were formed using a steel jewelry die. It has been soldered (with silver solder) to a moon shaped backplate that was textured using a steel texture plate. The copper bezel cup was constructed by hand and riveted to the textured backplate using sterling wire, as was the bail.
This pendant also has a vibrant red rose cut quartz backed with bamboo coral. The color pops against the copper metal.
Patina has been applied to the entire piece to bring out each and every detail.
The pendant hangs on a very simple 21 inch copper ball chain.
This is the perfect accessory for those who love bats, and Halloween jewelry!
Although I use a variety of techniques to achieve my desired effect, including soldering, riveting and polishing, The act of forging metal with my hammers is very therapeutic for me. I tend to incorporate cold joins wherever I can in order to create articulating pieces that display movement as they are worn. I am always experimenting with new designs and materials, and I am excited to see where my work will take me in the future.

Care Instructions
Do not expose your necklace to chemicals or water. Remove prior to bathing, swimming, exercising, gardening etc. Use your included polishing cloth to keep your pieces clean and to renew the shine.
Copper may react with the oils of your skin, lotions and even other environmental factors. When this happens, the skin that comes in contact with the copper may change color. This is a temporary reaction. You can help to avoid this by applying a microcrystalline wax such as Renaissance wax which can be found online, or turtle wax which can be found in any big box store.
