Description

This one-of-a-kind jacket is made from a vintage Kantha quilt, a mix of different fabric prints & straight running hand stitching.  It was constructed by a combination of French seams to enclose raw edges (with exception of sleeves/armholes where zigzag stitches were used) and hand sewing at the front band, sleeve & bottom hems.  This is a loose-fitting, unlined, lightweight jacket with front bands, back yokes and 2-piece sleeves.  The pattern size is XL with approximate body measurements of:

Bust – 42″44″

Waist – 34″-37″

Hips – 44″-46″

Length – 31″-32″

NOTE:  The word “Kantha” (pronounced KAHN-taa) refers to two things:

— Discarded cloth or rags that have been reused in a quilted blanket.
— A specific, small, straight running stitch that is central to Bengali embroidery.

In Sanskrit, the word “Kantha” means rags, but these quilts aren’t usually produced out of actual rags. They are a mix of old saris and other discarded pieces of fabric, giving it all a new life.
