Description

My all-time favorite ground cover, Ajuga Chocolate Chip (also called Bugleweed) is a wonderful evergreen growing to about 4 inches tall. Its habit is to spread via tendrils and root system, and I have found it extremely malleable to train where I want it to stay and to where I’d like for it to grow. It stays green throughout the winter in my Zone 6 garden and is one of the first plants to show its beautiful blanket of blue flowers in the springtime (see the photos taken right from my garden).

It’s my favorite as a groundcover because it actually lives up to the name, as my photos show. It’s great for edging your garden along a sidewalk or lawn. It does great around steppingstones and under shrubbery and trees, as well.

YOUR ORDER:

Sold by the dozen. You will receive bare root plants in the quantity ordered. They will be harvested fresh from my garden on the day they ship. As always, shipping is free.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

When they arrive at your door, immediately plant them in pots using quality potting soil and care for them as you would any other plant, keeping them indoors for a few days to recover from shipping. Next, go through a few days of hardening off before finally planting outdoors in your garden. For mass planting, space 12-18 inches apart. Care for them as you would any newly planted plant, being sure it has plenty of water the first two weeks until the root system is established. They will fill in over the next growing season and continue to create a nice, dense cover. Ajuga does well in shade and partial shade, as well as in sun, as I have it successfully growing in all light situations in my garden,
